Capital is anything that can be used to produce things people need or want. Examples include factories, offices, warehouses, heavy equipment and machinery, means of transportation, farmland, copper mines, and oil reserves.

Although something like a hand drill can be considered capital by this definition, when discussing capitalism, “capital” refers only to things that require more than one person to operate.
